Indonesia memiliki cadangan  nikel sebesar 72 juta ton atau mencapai 52% dari total cadangan nikel dunia pada 2020. Wakil Presiden (Wapres) Ma’ruf Amin menyebutkan Indonesia memiliki peran penting dalam industri nikel. “Ini artinya Indonesia memegang peranan sangat penting dalam penyediaan bahan baku produk nikel dunia,” kata Wapres saat peletakan batu pertama di Kawasan Industri Nusantara Industri Sejati (NIS) Konawe Utara, Sulawesi Tenggara (Sultra), Kamis (19/5/2022).

Sementara itu, Wapres mengungkapkan sampai dengan April 2022, Kementerian Perindustrian mencatat ada 138 perusahaan kawasan industri yang tersebar di Pulau Jawa, Kalimantan, Maluku, Papua, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, dan Sumatra. “Bagian dari sektor energi baru yang terkonsentrasi di Delta Yangtze dan China tenggara telah terkena dampak parah,” tambahnya.
